Aloha Everyone,
Driving across the USA in my new Corvette was even more fun
than I had hoped for. This was a trip of a lifetime. I flew
to Washington DC from Hilo, Hawaii to pick up a perfect 2003
50th Anniversary model convertible low-mileage beauty from
Bob Arnold at Cooper Corvettes in Triangle, VA. He and his
staff did a great job getting the car ready for the long
drive, including a new set of top-flight tires. Thanks, Bob,
you're a credit to our hobby.
First stop was central New York. My mom and Dad moved from
their longtime house to a very nice retirement home. I
stayed for a week and did what I could to help out. While
there, I went to they Syracuse National Car Show. There were
over 7000 cars from all over the US. It would take days to
see them all.
The Corvette Museum and Assembly Plant, located in Bowling
Green, KY, were endlessly fascinating. The rolling hills and
forest are beautiful. I took a back road into Bowling Green
and drove through some great country, perfect for a
Corvette. All Corvette lovers must see the National Museum
and Assembly Plant. It brought tears to my eyes viewing the
great displays and moments in Corvette history. Also, many
of the historical Corvettes are on display. Driving thru the
South was a challenge. Without my GPS, I might still be
driving around in circles. In Memphis, a large rock hit my
windshield, putting a good sized ding in the expensive Heads
Up Glass, a special glass that reflects an on-screen view of
your instrument panel. I did a repair in New Mexico while
visiting my old friends Steve and Beau. Thanks, Steve and
Beau, for your friendship and help. Parts of Route 66 are
still in use so I drove on what's left, visiting many
roadside attractions and Indian stores. In Amarillo, TX, I
found the American Quarter Horse Museum right next to the
Motel where I had stopped for the night. Its' a must see for
anyone who loves horses.
After a stay in New Mexico, it was off to Arizona. What a
great state! Very diverse, with every kind of land you can
imagine. I stayed in Williams, AZ, which still looks like it
did in the heyday of Route 66. Williams is a mountain town
with lots to see. Then the Grand Canyon, it's grand.
Difficult to put into words, but I'm very glad I took the
time to see this American wonder. The last leg was
California, across the Mohave Desert in 109 degree heat.
Then into the heavy LA traffic and a white knuckle drive to
Long Beach. The Queen Mary is where I stayed for two
wonderful days, crawling all over this endlessly fantastic
ship. Finally, I dropped my most beloved and faithful
Corvette off at the Matson docks for its sea voyage to
Hawaii and its new home.
This wonderful drive put over 4000 miles on my low mileage
2003 50th Anniversary convertible. She never missed a beat,
burned not a drop of oil, and averaged over 30 miles per
gallon at 80mph with the air on. What a car! Having owned
over 100 cars in my 65 years, I can honestly say this
Corvette is the best road auto I have ever driven. This is
my 7th Corvette in a car history spanning over 40 years, and
by far the best. The lack of long haul Corvettes on the
superhighways was somewhat perplexing. I guess folks do not
want to put road wear on their beauties. My car did take a
few hits along the way, but a nose cover and some luck
helped. Corvettes were made for the road, and that's what I
did. I would do it again in a New York minute. A big mahalo
to my wonderful wife who encouraged me to take the plunge
and go for it. (After talking about this trip for 20
years!). I will never forget all the great people I met on
the road. The Corvette never failed to draw a crowd whenever
I stopped. Best regards and see you on the road
~ Colin McIver, Keaau, Hawaii

Greetings:
It is an honor to introduce you to Cooper Corvettes and
Performance Cars. Since the age of 7, I always dreamed of
owning a Corvette but never thought I'd ever be able to
obtain one. That all changed one day when I walked onto the
showroom of Cooper Corvettes. Bob Arnold, the owner, is an
avid Corvette enthusiast and will do his best to make your
dreams come true as well. I was overwhelmed with the
hospitality, cordiality and the amazing selection of cars..
I immediately felt as though I was part of his family. Ron
Cooper, the senior sales associate, placed me in the
Corvette that felt good to me without pressure. And he
worked 100% with me to make all aspects of buying a
performance car the most enjoyable experience. Lee, the
administrative assistant, was just a joy and helped me with
all paperwork requirements. Brian George, the Sunday
Salesman, is always ready to greet you with fantastic
enthusiasm and superior knowledge to help you find the right
car. And I don't want to forget, Tom, the service manager.
He is an avid Corvette enthusiast and possibly one of the
best performance car technicians on the East Coast. Tom will
get you back on the road fast in the event of a service
issue or he can put a smile on your face should you want to
modify your Corvette. A very BIG smile! I encourage you to
visit Cooper Corvettes in beautiful Triangle, VA. Find out
for yourself how affordable a Corvette really can be. Come
browse over the showroom, test drive the car of your choice,
or just sit and talk Corvettes. My guess is you will find a
performance car that fits your needs without cramping your
budget. I found 5 of them. Experience America's true Sports
Car for yourself. You'll be glad you did.
Thanks, Cooper Corvettes!
